Extinction of Tasmanian Tiger

This week's extinct animal: The Tasmanian Tiger or Thylacine.
This animal is not a tiger or a feline at all. Despite it's canine look this is actually a marsupial. If she doesn't look too happy it's because these paintings were done from photos of the last remaining Tasmanian Tiger at the Hobart Zoo in 1933. She was incorrectly assumed to be male so her name is Benjamin.
It went extinct because during a large economic depression in Australia farmers falsely reported instanced of there cattle being eaten by Thylacine. This caused people in the area to hunt them to endangered levels. Additionally when the Europeans arrived in Australia they brought there own animals which made the competition for food more difficult.
This painting was done with a very different set of tools them I'm used to working with. Fun but a bit slow for my taste. The finished product has a nice clean look which I'll definitely incorporate more in my art.

Some practice for the final images.
